In this video you’ll learn all about Fischer projections including what they are, how to read them, how to quickly draw and convert 3D molecules into Fischer projection and back without ever having to build a model kit.
You’ll learn a number of different methods for converting 3D to Fischer from small molecules containing a single chiral center, to complex molecules like D-Glucose containing multiple chiral centers.
You’ll also learn what happens when you rotate a Fischer Projection 90 and 180 degrees.

    • @Leah4sciMCAT

      The formula itself is a starting point, however you must also consider that + and - represent direction rather than just addition and subtraction. For example: +Acceleration in the downward direction as we see with gravity, is +(-g) or simply -g If looking at delta Y, the delta tells us final minus initial and so going up vs going down would also be opposite signs

    I am 9 years late but could you please explain how you got the lower part of the atom's configuration to be R and then S because it was going in the left direction so wouldn't it be S ? i got it

    • @Leah4sciMCAT
      @Leah4sciMCAT 24 дні тому

      When we traced a path from 1 to 2 to 3, we initially got R. Then, we have to remember that group 4 must be towards the back of the molecule in order to assign configuration. So we flip the configuration from R to S to accommodate for Hydrogen being in the front of the molecule. For the square root question, should we distribute the 1/2 exponent to both the 1 and 10^-6? We do it in the second problem distributing the 2 to both 10^-4 and 9. Thanks!

    • @Leah4sciMCAT
      @Leah4sciMCAT 24 дні тому

      Yes, you can think of it that way! 1 raised to any exponent is still 1. And then you are left with 10^-6 raised to the 1/2 power. Multiply the exponents and -6 times 1/2 gives you a new exponent of -3.

      8.5 works here! It would actually give you a final answer closer to the correct value. In terms of the MCAT, I usually say 'close enough is good enough'. That small decimal point difference won't distract you from your final answer on test day.

It is almost like a lock and key system with the virus and if the receptors on the host match with the those on the viral particles, the cell takes the virion in via endocytosis(rme).

    Hi! Around 9:00 into this video, why won’t H2O do nucleophilic attack into the imine on the right (where N has positive charge with 4 bonds total)? Why does O in OH group have to form double bond with the carbon and kick out C-N pi bond to the nitrogen for H2O to then attack the carbonyl Carbon? Is it because C=O+ makes electrophilic carbon more electrophilic than C=N+?? Thank you!

    Just to check if I got that right haha Basically, in here, the (-) side of the cell is giving electrons to the +ions by the cathode, and the (+) side is receiving electrons from the -ions by the anode. The cathode is reducing ions, and the anode oxidizing them. In the galvanic cell, the cathode is still reducing, but it's reducing what exactly, the anode? So, the metal in the cathode goes to the ion form, getting itself oxidized while reducing the anode, which is oxidizing the cathode while reducing the +ions in the other solution? I am a bit lost in this one Is everything right?

    Why is the carbonyl and H in the wrong place at 10:30? Why are you swapping?

    • @Leah4sciMCAT
      @Leah4sciMCAT 2 місяці тому

      Correct form for a Fischer projection is to have the main carbon chain along the vertical backbone of the structure. That means, by convention, the carbonyl carbon should be on the vertical line and not the horizontal. One swap of the carbonyl and hydrogen changes this to follow convention, but then we have to do the second swap to maintain the R configuration of alanine.
